NDI video streams begin at port 5961. the next ports being assigned sequentially according to the amount of NDI streams that are available on the system. EEE (Energy Efficient Ethernet) is a method of reducing the power consumed by switches during times that have lower network traffic.

What Port Does OBS NDI Use?

NDI is a video protocol that allows two host systems to establish a connection and exchange data packets. The protocol ensures the integrity of the data as it travels from sender to receiver. It is commonly grouped with IP and used for video streaming and teleconferencing. Multicasting is another protocol that can be used to distribute video, audio, and other data between multiple systems. But multicasting can be problematic if your network is not configured correctly.

The port range for NDI is 49152-65535. You must enable the port range for your NDI devices to work correctly. If you are running NDI on an internal network, you must ensure that the network is set up to allow this type of traffic. For Windows Vista and later, you can use the netsh command to specify a specific port range. This will affect dynamic port assignments for all devices on the network.

Requirements

To create broadcast-quality videos using OBS, you must have the necessary hardware. This includes a good processor, 4GB of RAM, and a high-end video card. A GPU is also helpful for optimal performance. The software should also be able to receive the NDI signal and handle audio.

You will also need an ethernet connection and a gigabit network switch. Although a 10/100 Mbps switch will work, a gigabit network will allow you to stream multiple NDI streams simultaneously. Luckily, gigabit ethernet switches are not that expensive these days.

You’ll need to install a special plugin called obs-ndi to enable NDI. You can find this by doing a Google search for the “OBS NDI plugin.” Once installed, you can allow NDI in OBS by going to the “NDI Output Settings” in the OBS software. Once enabled, the NDI source will be visible in the preview interface.

Once your computer meets the requirements, you can install the OBS NDI plugin. You can download it from Google or from here. Once installed, you can test your stream by selecting the “+” icon and clicking “Add Source.” Then, select the NDI source.

Performance

The OBS NDI port allows the recording and streaming of video from remote locations. The bandwidth consumption varies based on the content being streamed. For example, relatively static content needs less bandwidth than dynamic content. If your network has a 10Gb connection, you should be able to run at least ten NDI connections.

OBS NDI is also simple to install and configure. You don’t need to modify your hardware, so the setup process is quick and easy. Moreover, you can use the port to stream video in native resolution and frame rate. The OBS NDI port allows you to change the settings from your gaming PC to the streaming PC.

The NDI port also supports multicast-based video sources. Its encoding algorithm is resolution independent and supports up to 4K resolution and 16 floating-point audio channels. It also has tools for managing video access rights, grouping, and bi-directional metadata. The NDI port has excellent performance over standard GigE networks. This lets you easily transition your production pipeline to an IP-based one.
