USB 2.0 is sufficient for peripherals that don’t require high speeds for data transfer like mice and keyboards. Since these devices aren’t specifically designed to transfer data like flash drives and external disk drives are and are not designed for data transfer, they will not be able to benefit from the 3.0 interface.
