Everything is Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality is everywhere these days and everything is VR.

VR is Everything
VR is Everything

Everything- we live in a virtual world that is defined by a common set of descriptions. According to the philosopher David Hume, all human knowledge stems from perception rather than reason. We interpret what our senses tell us about our environment, filter through the biological neural network that we are and the dataset informs us about our situation. Basically, we live in a shared hallucination. We determine what an object is and we respond to it based on an instructional dataset.

Not a lot different than what we are trying to teach artificial (non-biological) intelligent devices to do for us. But these devices have advantages and disadvantages

The major disadvantage, currently (as far as I know anyway), is that they are not self-learning. That means that to train a device to recognize a shape it needs to have multiple examples of that shape provided as a comparative dataset. The same can be said about the reactions to be expected from a device as it perceives the surrounding environment. This means programming and “libraries” of data.

But it also means we can provide our environment with senses we do not have as humans and start making decisions about situations that may have not even have occurred to us prior. Researchers have tested an AI that can detect neurological illnesses by reading CT scan images faster than radiologists, and when working with a sudden onset situation like a stroke- “time is brain”. Having a 3D-CNN (convolutional neural network) reading a CT scan can save lives.

Being able to “see” in wavelengths outside of the limitations of the human experience can only enrich our lives, thermography can be used to dynamically adjust settings in our power plants, interpreting the UV light spectrum can be used in agriculture to optimize harvests. We are just at the beginning of finding out the wonders of the universe using X-ray vision (James Webb Space Telescope), but who hasn’t read about “X-ray Vision!

Vision is just one of the human analogue senses we are building today. Audio is already being done (Alexa, Siri), smell-o-vision is in development as a part of our new shared hypnosis project of the Metaverse (yes, really), haptic response in devices will help remote surgeons…. On and on the developments will roll.

But we do vision- and that does not mean limiting our development to the visible light spectrum.

As we at VDO360 continue to search out new products, explore new applications, and boldly go where no other camera companies have gone before- you can be sure of one thing, we will not be working towards ASI! Our goal is to develop the building blocks necessary for widespread adoption of everyday applications; immersive instruction, AI-aided surgeries, reduced development cycles through collaboration, etc.

Stay tuned as we look into these different types of products and applications to bring concept into reality – virtual reality!
